What is Tuina Massage?
Tuina (pronounced "twee-nah") is a therapeutic form of Chinese medical massage that has been practiced for thousands of years. Unlike relaxation massage, Tuina is a clinical therapy that uses specific techniques—including kneading, rolling, pressing, and stretching—to target muscles, joints, and energy pathways (meridians) in the body.
At ZEN TCM, Tuina is delivered by a licensed practitioner and can be combined with acupuncture, cupping, or physiotherapy for optimal results.

How Does Tuina Work?
-
Manual techniques: Tuina uses hands, fingers, elbows, and sometimes tools to apply rhythmic pressure, mobilize joints, and release muscle tension.
-
Holistic approach: It addresses both physical (musculoskeletal, neural) and energetic (Qi and blood flow) imbalances.
-
Integration with physiotherapy: Tuina complements Western rehabilitation by improving circulation, reducing pain, and restoring movement.

What Does the Science Say?
-
Pain Relief: Clinical studies show Tuina is effective for chronic low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, and joint stiffness—often comparable to or better than conventional physiotherapy for certain conditions.
-
Functional Improvement: Tuina can enhance range of motion, speed up recovery from injuries, and support rehabilitation after musculoskeletal problems.
-
Stress & Energy: Research and clinical experience suggest Tuina helps reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost energy by calming the nervous system and balancing the body’s systems.
